Calming your system to prepare for connection

Rachel Sparks is an award-winning dancer/choreographer, dance teacher, embodiment educator and coach based in London. With an ethos of inclusivity and celebration of the body, she works with individual couples and groups of students supporting them to make loving and compassionate choices in their dance, in their lives and for others.
"We often get told to 'just relax' and the assumption is that we know how to do that. Centering is a general term for an embodied physiological shift that anyone can do to get to a calmer state.
"When we can acknowledge what we're bringing with us into the room, we have more of a chance of choosing our state and connecting with our humanity. This, for me, is the only way we can come into meaningful connection in movement and in conversations."
In this conversation with Rachel, she draws upon her work with couples, and how she uses embodied awareness, intention setting and centering as a way of teaching dance steps and partnering dynamics. This could be applied to the beginning of a therapy or coaching session or any learning situation.
In this session, she offers practical exercises that can make a huge difference to the way we arrive at the dance floor and the embrace.
